Benetech Approved EdTech Overview

Benetech announces the release of the latest service from its Global Certified Accessible family of offerings: the Benetech Approved EdTech Tool (BAET). This groundbreaking and timely service is designed to advise and assist EdTech tool and app vendors in ensuring their products comply with the requirements of the Department of Justice’s New Rule on the Accessibility of Web Content and Mobile Apps (read more here: Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act stipulating the new requirements).

By April 24, 2026, EdTech tools used by public schools, libraries, and universities will be required to be accessible by people with disabilities. By that date, EdTech tool and app vendors will need to ensure their solutions adhere to the new DOJ rules and should expect compliance requirements to become mandatory in RFPs and product/service contracts.

DOJ rules for ADA compliance can be complex, and lack of compliance may interrupt your company’s business, revenue, and customer relations. The Benetech Approved EdTech Tool service cuts through the complexity, providing a complete review of your offerings to help you meet compliance standards.

Equitable and accessible content for all readers is not only a matter of social justice, but also a commercial opportunity. Adhering to the 13 guidelines of The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level AA, Benetech, the number one trusted organization in the field of digital accessibility, will deliver expert, human review of your product or service, provide a complete review and audit of your student/patron-facing EdTech products, and ultimately, certify your EdTech tool to help you maintain existing and drive new business opportunities.

BAET Process

  • Benetech experts will review and audit your current offerings
  • Benetech will provide a detailed report of accessibility issues and recommended remediation
  • You implement remediation recommendations
  • Benetech will work with you throughout the certification process

Once you have completed the testing, your product will be approved for a period of one year and you will be awarded the Benetech Approved EdTech Tool icon. Throughout the year you will receive regular communication from Benetech around any changes in the Title II Rule, any updates in our process, and advance news, information, and findings from our work with other members of the Benetech Approved EdTech Tool community.
